In this department, we are committed to practice-led teaching and applicable research. Specifically, we are focused on:
- High quality teaching. We provide our students with practical knowledge and skills through the combination of creative teaching techniques and fieldwork experience; we teach how to use GIS and other related software in regional disaster and rescue planning, disaster mitigation, disaster prevention and response system management, urban planning, landscape architecture, etc.
- Meeting the needs of the market and contributing to our society. We prepare and develop a pool of highly-skilled professionals, who can be employed in various industrial sectors and various levels of government, and who are capable of meeting the demands of the market.
After successful completion of their studies, our students are awarded a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree in Urban Planning and Disaster Management, which allows them to sit the national exam for the certified urban planner, community planner, and/or disaster manager.
While our department is focused on developing students’ practical skills, we also seek to facilitate their interest in research. Through practicums and case studies research we encourage our students to reflect on various issues such as environmental changes in urban and rural areas, the creative and sustainable environment design, industrial transformations and policies, disaster management (including response, preparation, adaptation, and rebuilding), and other relevant phenomenon. We also aim to inspire our students to use their knowledge of GIS and planning, to bring the positive change to our environment and to contribute to our society, local communities and Taiwan as a whole.
